Jenny Bowen

Jenny is an aquatic biogeochemist who uses lab experiments, field observations, and organic geochemistry approaches to understand and upscale greenhouse gas emissions. She has worked in arctic permafrost, boreal peatlands, and temperate streams to investigate chemical and abiotic drivers of carbon dioxide emission, which can be used to predict how freshwaters respond to human-caused disturbances. As a postdoc in the Hoyt Lab, she is studying the effects of land disturbance on aquatic carbon fluxes in Southeast Asian peatlands.

Jenny joined our group in Fall 2023 after a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. She completed her BS in Chemistry and Environmental Science at Chapman University and PhD in Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Michigan.
