Julie Shahan

Julie is an Earth System Science PhD student researching carbon exchange in tropical wetland ecosystems to better understand their role in the global carbon cycle and provide support for restoration efforts. She is focusing on quantifying carbon dioxide emissions from Indonesian peatlands undergoing rewetting and methane emissions from seasonally flooded forests in Brazil across spatial scales.

Julie completed her MS at California State University East Bay in Professor Patty Oikawa’s lab where researched atmospheric and hydrologic carbon exchange at a restored tidal wetland in the South San Francisco Bay using chamber and eddy covariance methods.
